Sixth grade Buckeye Intermediate School students won the Northeast Ohio Fall Stock Market Game on Dec. 11th. Each student team received a virtual $100,000 to invest in stocks of their choice. At the end of the ten week contest, the team with the most gain over the initial $100,000 won. Teams were charged transaction fees, realized capital gains and losses and paid dividends. The winning team members were Jacki Banas, Rachael Shaw and Julia Theis. Their team chose stocks that earned over $9,000 in the ten week period. Mrs. Johnston is their Pre-Algebra teacher. The second place team was in Mrs. Slepecky’s class. Their stocks made just over $5,000. Team members were AJ Johnson, Gina Messina, Jessica Galdun and Ariana Zingales. The third place team was fifth graders from Mrs. Johnston’s math class. Their stocks made just over $4,000 in ten weeks. Team members were Gabby Cloudy, Maeghan Mittler, Cameron Kennedy and Corey Theirgartner. All three teams received cash prizes and a pizza party for their whole class.
WAY TO GO!!
A Big Thank You to the Buckeye Education Foundation for making the Stock Market Game available to our students. Buckeye Intermediate School had 21 teams participate in the Northeast Ohio Fall Stock Market Game. The Buckeye Education Foundation generously donated the funds necessary for the registration fees. The Foundation received the funding for this specific project from Judy Tengler with John Hancock & Associates.
All of the students learned valuable lessons in stocks, investing, market news, real world math skills and decision-making based on long and short term goals.
