Thank you for increasing the busing for the Elementary and Jr. High students. Why can’t the high school be bused, too?
The cost to add a second bus run, as passed in the board resolution, will be around $120,000 per year. Eight buses will be used for this extra Jr. High run. By adding the separate Junior High School run, we will alleviate over crowding on our current buses and separate the youngest students from the older students.
Busing for the high school students was not reinstated because of cost. Bringing back high school busing with the Jr. High would have utilized 24 buses. The cost would be around $350,000 per year to completely reinstate busing.
With Buckeye’s anticipated financial forecast, we could only provide high school busing for part of one year. At the present time, our superintendent believes that providing busing for only part of a year would not be fair to students and parents nor would it be financially responsible. However, our superintendent states that this will be the first on the list to be re-instated when Buckeye receives additional operating money.
